Built: 1632–1653 by Emperor Shah Jahan

The Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum built as a tribute to eternal love, in memory of Shah Jahan's wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is renowned for changing colors throughout the day — pink at dawn, white in daylight, and golden under the moon. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Built: 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh

Built from pink and red sandstone, the Hawa Mahal has 953 small windows called "jharokhas," originally designed to let royal women observe street festivities without being seen. Its honeycomb-like facade is one of the most photographed structures in India.

Location: Amritsar, Punjab

Built: Completed in 1604

Also known as Harmandir Sahib, the Golden Temple is the holiest gurdwara of Sikhism. Its upper floors are covered in gold-plated copper, and it sits at the center of the sacred Amrit Sarovar (pool of nectar). It welcomes people of all faiths and serves free meals to thousands daily through its community kitchen (langar).

Era: 14th–16th century, Vijayanagara Empire

Hampi was once the capital of one of the wealthiest empires in the world. Today its ruins span over 1,600 monuments, including the famous stone chariot at Vittala Temple, which is even featured on India's 50-rupee note. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Location: Konark, Odisha

Built: 13th century by King Narasimhadeva I

Designed as a colossal stone chariot with 24 elaborately carved wheels pulled by seven horses, the Konark Sun Temple is dedicated to the Sun God, Surya. It is also known as the "Black Pagoda" and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Location: Madhya Pradesh

Built: 950–1050 AD by the Chandela dynasty

Originally a complex of over 80 temples (25 survive today), Khajuraho is famous for its intricate stone carvings depicting everyday life, mythology, and art. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site combining Hindu and Jain temple architecture.

Location: Madurai, Tamil Nadu

Built: Mainly 1623–1655, on a site dating back over 2,000 years

Dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi (a form of Parvati) and her consort Sundareswarar (Shiva), this temple spans around 45 acres and is famous for its towering gopurams covered in thousands of vividly painted sculptures depicting Hindu mythology.

Location: Delhi

Built: Started 1192 by Qutb-ud-din Aibak

Standing at 240 feet, Qutub Minar is the tallest brick minaret in the world. Its tapering tower is covered in intricate carvings and verses from the Quran, reflecting early Indo-Islamic architecture. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra

Built: Completed in 1924

An Indo-Saracenic monument built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. It overlooks the Arabian Sea and was historically the ceremonial entry point for British officials arriving in India.
